Show HN: Flopper is a hardware explorer for AI infrastructure and beyond

Hello! I built Flopper to make it easier to compare GPUs and understand the tradeoffs for workloads for AI and beyond. When researching GPUs from say Nvidia, AMD, and Huawei, I kept running into the same problem: specs were scattered across datasheets, and matching them to available configurations, vendors, and prices was cumbersome and a bit weird and frankly annoyingggg! AMD made me make an account :( So I started a place to bring that information together. Flopper lets you compare GPU specs, ...

Ask HN: What's your plan if AI takes your job?

If AI took away my job and I cannot return to software engineering, I cannot imagine a fit for me at any place yet. I was wondering if anyone else had the same thought and what would you do? Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50036432 Points: 2 # Comments: 1

AI agent makers are promising privacy — will they deliver?

At this year's OpenAI DevDay, CEO Sam Altman unveiled the company's new AI agent Dots - and told the crowd that the company wants to "set a new standard for privacy in frontier AI." OpenAI would spend the day taking veiled shots at Meta's Muse, its primary competitor, for failing to keep users' data safe. […]

LG’s RGB LED TV is good for certain situations, but an OLED is better

When it comes to TVs, the LG name has long been synonymous with OLEDs, continually leading Samsung and Sony as the top OLED manufacturer. But 2026 is all about RGB LED TVs. Almost every major company has released models with the new technology - including LG and its $3,600 75-inch Micro RGB evo MRGB95B that […]

Will Warner Bros. kill Skydance — or will David Ellison kill Warner Bros?

Today, I’m talking with Peter Kafka, chief correspondent at Business Insider and host of the Channels podcast, about the gigantic Warner Bros.-Paramount merger and the future of the company now simply called Skydance. Skydance is owned by David Ellison, son of Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, and its deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery officially closed […]

Anthropic is cutting off its internal evaluations from the internet

After a recent spate of high-profile incidents in which AI agents escaped containment, Anthropic is cutting off internet access for all internal evaluations. In a report Friday, the company detailed "unintended model actions," including submitting a false tip regarding an unsolved murder, that led to the decision. Although the impact of these behaviors was minimal […]

I Measured My RAG Pipeline Honestly. It Was 40x Slower Than I Thought.

A few days ago I published the architecture behind Vicquant’s RAG Vault; a 9-stage retrieval pipeline built to ground financial AI answers in actual source documents, with strict citations, so a user asking “what’s my 401(k) contribution limit” gets an answer tied to a real document, not a model’s confident guess. The quality evaluation backed it up: +5.2% answer relevance, +16% context precision, +4% context recall over the simpler pipeline it replaced, with zero hallucinations measured on eith...

How to Give Your Claude API App Access to SVG Icons with MCP

When building an AI-powered application, connecting a language model to real development assets can be surprisingly useful. Consider a dashboard builder. A developer describes the interface they want, and the application suggests components, layouts, and icons. The layout suggestions might be reasonable. But what happens when the model needs to recommend actual SVG icons? Without access to an icon catalog, it may suggest generic names, invent identifiers, or mix incompatible icon styles...

Touch Grass Birder: On-Device Bird ID in the Browser with Open-Weight AI

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 1: Touch Grass * What I Built Touch Grass Birder is an offline, on-device bird call identifier that runs entirely in your browser. Record 6 seconds of a bird call, get a species ID in seconds, then put your phone away and go find the bird. It identifies 6,522 species using the BirdNET v2.4 open model, running locally on your device via ONNX Runtime WebAssembly. There is no server, no API key, and no in...

My app accused the rain of being a car.

How do you prove to someone that you actually touched grass? I guess the bigger question is out of everything going on how is "if i touched grass" still the biggest argument we are having? No more. (Argument, not going outside (well maybe)). Proof of Grass listens to a few seconds of audio with Perch 2.0, an open bird-sound model that runs offline on your laptop. If it hears something alive, you get a receipt chained to the last one, so you can’t edit your history later. I tested it on 560...

RepoDNA v1.3.1: Analyze a Codebase in Your Browser—Without Uploading It Understanding an unfamiliar codebase often means answering the same questions from scratch: How is the project organized? Which modules and packages depend on one another? What has changed over time? Which files are hotspots? How is the project built and tested? Which findings have evidence behind them? RepoDNA is an open-source, local-first repository intelligence and code archaeology tool designed around th...
