next-advanced-sitemap 2.0: streaming sitemaps, strict mode and instant indexing for Next.js

next-advanced-sitemap 2.0 is out. It is a sitemap generator for the Next.js App Router, built for sites that have outgrown the basics. What is new in 2.0: Streaming XML: the sitemap is written as rows arrive from your database, so memory stays flat even with hundreds of thousands of URLs. Strict mode: entries that would under-perform in Search Console are rejected before any XML is produced. Deletion and expiration lifecycle: mark a page as removed or give it an expiry date, and t...

Google Play Billing for Android apps that sell digital features

A paid feature in an Android app can be a subscription, an extra capability, digital content, or cloud software access. If users can buy that digital good or service inside an app distributed on Google Play, Google’s Payments policy generally requires Google Play’s billing system for the purchase unless a specific policy allowance applies. The part that trips up product teams is often not the checkout screen. It is deciding what each SKU sells, where the customer can use it, and whether a region...

Po-Shen Loh Quadratic Method: Solve Equations via Symmetry

Originally published on malcolmlow.com as part of the Foundational Mathematics & Algorithms series. For four millennia—spanning Babylonian clay tablets, Renaissance cryptanalysts, and modern classroom algebra—solving quadratic equations has been synonymous with two unappealing extremes: brute-force factor guessing or blind formula memorization . In December 2019, Professor Po-Shen Loh of Carnegie Mellon University introduced a method that bypasses both. By decomposing the mo...

I’m 12. I built a 142KB AI app on a $150 phone. My goal: 100 users in 30 days.

Hey DEV Community! 👋 I’m Harun, a 12-year-old developer building entirely on a $150 Android phone. I recently launched KODA , a 142KB, mobile-first AI code mentor with live voice chat and study rooms. No bloat, no heavy frameworks, just pure constraint-driven engineering designed for spotty 3G connections and budget devices. Current Status: Users: 23 (The Founding 23 🏆) Goal by Nov 11: 100 Users Newsletter Goal: 50 Subs for "Off Radar" Codebase: 🔒 Locked for a month. I am...

How 8-bit quantization shrinks an LLM to a quarter of its size — and why a single outlier weight can quietly ruin it

I've been reading about LLM quantization for a while, and almost every explanation I found stopped at the same sentence: "it makes the model smaller." Fine. But how ? And what do you give up? So I wrote my notes down, got stuck on a few things, and built a small playground to help me visualize this concept better. For this article, we only go as far as 8-bit quantization. The denser things like GPTQ, GGUF and BitNet are something I'm still reading and will cover in the next few weeks. ...

My first open-source PR got closed, and the maintainer was right

This week I did something I had been putting off for years: I fixed two real bugs in open-source projects and opened the PRs myself. The two were repowise-dev/repowise#3251 and sktime/sktime#11437. The repowise bug: doc_anchors only registered the first anchor when a document had repeated headings. GitHub-style suffixed anchors ( slug-1 , slug-2 ) were just missing. The sktime bug: LagLlamaForecaster._update was loading the entire series history on every update instead of keeping just...

Building a Zero-Latency Suite of 16 Web Tools: The Case for 100% In-Browser Execution

Most online utility platforms send your inputs back and forth across remote servers. Whether you are generating a cryptographic password, calculating a mortgage amortization schedule, or compressing an image, traditional architectures introduce server latency, bandwidth overhead, and privacy risks. To solve this, I built Toolbay —a collection of 16 high-precision client-side instruments designed to execute 100% inside the browser sandbox. The Architecture: Zero Telemetry & ...

Do AI models still follow instructions when the rules stack up? A control-vs-stress benchmark

This is a submission for the Kaggle Benchmarking Challenge What I Benchmarked Reliability under constraints: when a model must satisfy several rules at once, and the prompt is padded with distractors or conflicting notes, which rules slip? ModelBench has 16 tasks in 8 control/stress pairs across four families (constraints, structured output, distractors, compound tasks). A control is a plain task; its stress version adds extra constraints, conflicting instructions or irrele...

JSON Tiles: Fast Analytics on Semi-Structured Data (2021)

Abstract: Developers often prefer flexibility over upfront schema design, making semi-structured data formats such as JSON increasingly popular. Large amounts of JSON data are therefore stored and analyzed by relational database systems. In existing systems, however, JSON’s lack of a fixed schema results in slow analytics. In this paper, we present JSON tiles, which, without losing the flexibility of JSON, enables relational systems to perform analytics on JSON data at native speed. JSON tiles a...

Ask HN: Resources for best practices in software development with AI?

What resources (authors, podcasts, books, etc) do you follow to keep up with best practices, patterns, methodologies, for software development with AI? There is so much noise that I want to know a few trusted resources (especially authors) to follow to keep up with latest best practices (an example of an author in what I have in mind would be Simon Willison).
