Show HN: Esp32sim – Run ESP32 firmware in the browser

Hi HN, I’ve been working on esp32sim, an open-source ESP32 emulator that runs in the browser. The fun part of the demo is that there is no ESP32 involved — the firmware is executing in the emulator. The goal is to make ESP32 software easier to experiment with, test and simulate without always needing physical hardware connected. Source: https://github.com/mikroverk/esp32sim I made a short video showing it in action: https://youtu.be/waoWFilTWEc I’m particularly interested in feedback from em...

Apple’s HomeView is just the latest threat to online recipe writers

When Apple revealed the HomeView to the world, it did so with an unusual ad for the company: Instead of pristine, polished tech in immaculate rooms, it's a three-minute look at the messy, frantic morning routine of a family of five. Apple's new smart display sits in the center of the chaos on the kitchen […]

Bose’s new wired earbuds are simple in the best way

After Apple courageously removed the headphone jack from the iPhone in 2016, most people switched to Bluetooth earbuds and never looked back. But their wired counterparts have stuck around, and their sales even went up this year after five years of decline. Part of the resurgence can be tied to the fact that they're cool […]

Websites are closing their doors to AI agents

Autonomous agents are the hottest thing in AI. OpenAI, Meta, Google, Instinct, and others promise their agents can scour the internet on your behalf, doing anything from booking a dinner reservation and cleaning out your inbox to buying new shoes. But what happens when the rest of the internet won't play nice? In recent weeks, […]

SpaceX’s ambitious, expensive gamble to replace AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon

Today, I’m talking with Walter Piecyk, a partner and analyst at LightShed Partners who covers tech, media, and telecom, about SpaceX’s recently announced plan to become a major wireless carrier. Last week, SpaceX agreed to buy a big chunk of low-band spectrum to expand the Starlink network, spectrum that’s been traded around the telecom business […]

Jad Abumrad loves a butterfly knife and a good springy pillow

It's hard to overstate Jad Abumrad's impact on the podcasting world. He created and hosted Dolly Parton's America and Fela Kuti: Fear No Man, two Peabody Award-winning shows that offered unprecedented looks at the lives of two of the most important music icons of the last century. Before that, though, he created Radiolab, an experimental […]

Meta removes language that may have allowed it to scrape news sites

After backlash, Meta is updating its terms again to remove language that suggested it could scrape content from sites, including news sites, to train its AI. Specifically, the following language no longer appears on the commercial terms page: … Meta may use any content from such domains, web pages, or URLs to provide, develop, improve, […]

Is this test flaky, or is it a real bug?

A flaky test failed and then passed on a retry without anyone fixing anything, and a real bug fails for a reason no retry changes. Nexus Studio, by Verdict System LLC, tells them apart by recording every retry: FLAKY for a failure that a retry passed, BREACHED for a real finding, and BREACHED_FLAKY for a failure that is itself inconsistent. A retry never turns a defect into a green run. By the Nexus Studio team, Verdict System LLC. October 7, 2026. What is a flaky test? A flak...

Your AI tools don't share a brain, and that's a graph problem

I use four or five AI coding tools in a given week — Claude Code for the gnarly stuff, Cursor for quick edits, Gemini CLI when I want a second opinion. Every one of them is excellent in the moment and useless the moment I switch. I'll spend twenty minutes in Claude Code deciding to rip out Express for Hono, explain exactly why, pick pnpm over npm while I'm at it — and then open Cursor an hour later and it asks me what framework the relayer is even on. That's not a model problem. It's a storag...

Why DeepSeek’s Flash 1017 Lets You Run a 1 M‑Token AI on One GPU – The Future of On‑Prem LLMs

DeepSeek v4.1 Flash 1017 – Why the “million‑token” LLM finally feels affordable The Lead “A 1 M‑token context used to cost a data‑center the price of a small‑car loan.” When DeepSeek unveiled v4.1‑Flash 1017 on September 17, 2026, the headline sparked more than a few skeptical comments on Hacker News. The claim sounded almost mythical: a 284‑billion‑parameter transformer that can remember an entire novel‑length document and fit into the memory budget of a single A100 ...

Tripo AI Image to 3D Review 2026: 18.3x the Credits for 101 Seconds

This is an independent test. Nothing here came from vendor access: both tools were used on my own free and paid accounts. My verdict in 60 seconds — Tripo 58/100, SupaVoxel 91/100 Same photograph, same day, two image-to-3D products: a seated chibi reindeer in a corduroy scarf. Tripo charged 55 credits. SupaVoxel charged 3. On this subject Tripo was faster on raw wall clock — 157.0 seconds against 258.3 — and I am going to give Tripo that row properly rather than explain it away. Two t...

I built a portfolio where you race my times in 4 daily puzzles

My new portfolio has a small daily arcade: Minesweeper, a 6×6 Sudoku, Quick Math and Code Review (spot the bug in three short snippets). Everyone gets the same puzzles each day, and I play them first, so my real time is the one to beat. A few things I enjoyed building: Times you can't fake. The puzzles are public, so the server doesn't trust the browser. You get a signed token when you start; when you finish, the server replays your moves with the same game logic and measures the time itse...
