Ran an AI photoshoot business for a year. ~$250k ARR, 8 big clients. Honest writeup of why I'm probably done with it.

I'm a founder and for the last year or so I ran an AI photoshoot business for ecommerce. Basically we used AI to make product photos for clothing brands, mostly big Indian companies. Got it to around 250k ARR with 8 major clients before I started having real doubts about the whole space. Not selling anything, won't name the company, just wanted to write down what actually happened because I see a lot of people chasing the "AI replaces an expensive job" thing right now and it's messier ...

$20K in 5 months from a Chrome extension. Solo founder. ~$2/mo in costs. No funding. No ads. 822 sales.

Built a Chrome extension, sell it for $29 one-time. Crossed $20k since January. Also have a small monthly pro upsell at $6.99/mo. MRR isn't huge but it's growing. This journey has changed my life. Not necessarily the amount of money, just unlocking what possibilities exist out there if you try. Solo operator with no funding and basically no overhead. Happy to answer any questions.

Why am I feeling that SaaS Founders have started to feel more like a Content Creator whether they like it or not...

When I first started building products, I thought success would mostly come down to: building something useful getting users improving the product Now it feels like the job description has changed completely. A founder today is expected to: build market create content grow an audience engage communities learn distribution I've seen great products struggle because nobody knew they existed. And I've seen average products get traction because the founder became e...

Need email marketing service recommendation

I have a lead magnet pdf I want to send to people that come to my website and enter their email. I want to collect emails in case I ever start sending bulk emails to people on the list. I would probably send less than 6 emails per year. I don't mind getting an address from Viabox to comply with laws. Is there a service that automates what I'm looking for that also handles unsubscribes, duplicate emails, and has good customer support? Also, can email lists be transferred to different services if ...

Free trials: Yes or No?

Hello founders! I've been building some products and at this point I kinda got stuck with the whether I should implement free trials or no? On one hand free trials is a way to get early feedback about your product and improve from there. (If a person even gives feedback) One the other hand usually (I might be wrong it's just assumption) people who do free trials are not really motivated buyers and almost all of them after playing with free trial just give up on the product. Is it so? Or ...

I've built 25+ MVPs. The funded ones all cut these 5 features

Was archiving dead client folders last month and ended up reading old scoping docs for like three hours instead of doing actual work. We're a small dev shop. 26 MVPs shipped since we started, I counted. 8 of those founders went on to raise. Most of the rest are gone, a couple are profitable lifestyle businesses which honestly might be the best outcome of all. Anyway I started noticing something in the old docs and it annoyed me enough to make a spreadsheet. The projects that raised had way sho...

How will your SaaS survive the DIY AI age?

Hi all, I have no doubt that within 2-5 years anybody will be able to generate any SaaS at the snap of their fingers. Just look at how fast Claude is moving already compared to 1 year ago. I want to see what everyone else is doing to survive the AI wave where customers are eg mid 20s - 40s, and have a semi understanding of AI to build their own SaaS. For our SaaS, we collect vast amounts of data, added progress trackers, gamified the experience more. But that's only half of it. We also ope...

Built the whole app just to lose people on screen one or two

I think a lot of apps lose users much earlier than the team realizes. Spent months building features. Users opened the app, saw the signup flow, and said: “Actually, I’m good.” I think this happens more often than people admit. It looks like users are just “not converting.” But actually they never even reach the useful part of the product. And unless you track the steps between install - signup - activation, you’re basically guessing where they disappeared. Curious if others have seen this ...

72 € MRR, ask me anything (mom, im rich)

Built beatsee.app , a browser tool that turns your music into beat-reactive 3D visuals you can export for YouTube/TikTok/Reels. No install, no After Effects, no $50 Fiverr guy. After months (actually 3 years 🤬) of building, I'm sitting at a glorious 72 € MRR . Not quitting my job. Possibly never quitting my job. But people are actually PAYING!!! , which still feels unreal. Stuff I'm happy to be honest about: how I got the first paying users why I priced it at ~6 €/mo and whether...

How did you get your first 10 real reviews?

For anyone who launched through an app marketplace, how did you get your first 10 legitimate reviews? I have a Shopify app with a small group of happy early users, but organic discovery is painfully slow. Maybe one signup every week or two. I’m not looking for fake reviews, review swaps, or spammy tactics. Just trying to figure out the cleanest way to get more real users to the point where they’ve had enough value to leave an honest review. The hard part is that most non-paid marketing cha...

A Trend that is exploited to the extent to digging their own grave

I've been doom scrolling on LinkedIn for months now. Trying to find what's working and what not. Every 2nd post I see is: Claude replacing SDRs Claude creating AI warm leads Claude helping in reach with 300 times increase n viewership Openclaw replacing $10k per month teams This is the same trend I saw when everyone used to post about cold emailing & it's saturation (still do, but percentage is less) This seems like a monopoly at times, and also an increase in self-branding to an ...

Built my first SaaS as a developer, now stuck at the part nobody teaches: getting users

Hey everyone, I've been a software engineer for a while, but I’m completely new to the SaaS side of things. I’m good at building software, but I’m realising building the product is probably the easy part. Getting users, marketing, distribution and figuring out if people will actually pay for something seems like the real challenge. A few weeks ago I built a Chrome extension. The idea is simple: A website blocker that helps people stay focused by blocking distracting websites. At the mo...

Advice on doing a free trial/lifetime subscription.

I'm Not Promoting. I've recently created a 3 month free trial for my website/app however I'm not getting many users really signing up for it.
