How pdlc-skills Makes Progress, Change Impact, and Quality Trends Visible

The last post covered the quality chain. This one is about visibility . An AI can push three features forward in an afternoon. If you can't tell where the project stands, what a change will touch, or how the last stretch went, the automation is running in a black box. pdlc has three tools for this: the statusline together with /pdlc-status , /pdlc-relate , and /pdlc-retro . They watch three timescales: right now, before a change, and month by month. Three tools, one data source...

The Intelligence Ladder

How much intelligence do we really need? I have been sitting with this question for a long time. The more I fold language models into my daily work as a software developer, the less sure I am about a very basic thing: which model do I actually need for the task in front of me? Take a concrete case. I want to build a chat app. What is the breakdown of that work that would let me give an honest estimate of the time and the money it will take? That is not an unreasonable thing to ask. Ever...

What a Confluence space export actually gives you

Short answer. Confluence Cloud exports a whole space to PDF, CSV, HTML or XML from space settings. It is an administrator's action: space admins can export a space, or a set of pages selected individually inside it. The export is genuinely useful for moving or archiving content. What it is not is a spreadsheet of your data: the CSV option dumps space content, not the tables that live on your pages. And several things leave the export without telling you. The four formats, and what...

I Had an AI Agent Scrape Google Maps Instead of Writing a Scraper. Here's What It Cost.

Summary: I ran a Claude agent with only browser tools (no pre-written scraper code) against 60 coffee-shop listings on Google Maps across 3 US cities, and compared it to a plain Playwright script on the same pages. The agent got every field right on every checked row, but cost 190k-540k processed tokens and 23-35 seconds per place, against 6-14 seconds and zero model tokens for the script. Full numbers and caveats below. A thread in r/automation asked whether an LLM agent could just replace ...

Can you import a Word document into an existing Confluence page?

Short answer. In Confluence Cloud, no. The import always creates a new page, because it is an entry point to page creation rather than something you do to a page that already exists. Confluence Data Center can import a Word document into an existing page; Cloud cannot. Your practical options are to import as a new page and move the content across, or to paste the content into the existing page, which is uglier but keeps the page's history, comments and URL. Why the button is not whe...

The Confluence content manager: what it does and where it stops

Short answer. The content manager is a screen inside a Confluence space's settings. It lists everything in that space except blogs, filters the list by last activity, labels, status, type and contributor, and then archives, deletes, re-owns or re-statuses hundreds of items in one action. It is available only on Confluence Premium and Enterprise : if it is missing from your Space settings, that is almost always why. Its Last active filter is the fastest native way to find forgotten pages, and...

Shipping an image SaaS on Cloudflare Workers: nine things that broke

I spent a week building Album Art Creator , a tool that turns a song title into a release-ready cover: a picture from an image model, a title and artist name as live text layers, and a pre-flight check against what Spotify, Apple Music and the three big distributors publish. The whole thing runs on Cloudflare Workers — TanStack Start for the app, D1 for the database, R2 for the images, a payment provider for money, and four different image models behind it. Most of it went the way the docs s...

Stop Trusting the App: Enforcing Append-Only at the Database Layer

Most "audit logs" are append-only by convention, not by enforcement. The application inserts a row and politely promises never to UPDATE or DELETE it. That promise holds right up until the moment someone does one of these: A bug in the app calls repo.delete(id) on the wrong entity. An operator connects with psql and runs a cleanup script against the production table. A compromised dependency exfiltrates the credentials and rewrites history to cover its tracks. If a third pa...

Reproducing PROFINET in the Lab: Discovery, AR Establishment, and Cyclic RT Boundaries

By RUGERO Tesla ( @404Saint ). I approached this research with the same general workflow I have used for the other industrial protocols in my lab. Start with the architecture, identify a usable implementation, reproduce the visible protocol behavior, inspect the traffic, and then move toward security-relevant experiments. PROFINET made that process more complicated than I expected. The first challenge was getting the laboratory into a useful state. I spent a considerable amount of time w...

GPT-6 Astra Is Not Just a Smarter Model. It Is a Computer Operator.

OpenAI's newest model can navigate software, sustain long coding sessions, produce professional artifacts, and autonomously discover and exploit previously unknown vulnerabilities. The benchmark numbers are extraordinary. The more important story is that GPT-6 Astra changes what an AI deployment is: less a request-response API, more a powerful operator that needs its own identity, workspace, permissions, network boundary, and incident trail. I Almost Wrote the Wrong Article About...

Show HN: Fog 2.0: I removed the AI auto-organizing I built my first app around

Hey everyone, This is my first time posting on Show HN, so hello there. Back in March, I launched my first app on the App Store. It was a notes app that uses Apple's on-device foundation model to organize your notes for you, and I called it Fog. And boy did I learn a lot. Looking at the notes app category and how saturated it currently is, I wanted to try something different. Privacy is #1, so notes should stay on the device, keeping the user in control. Then there was the AI aspect I was using ...

Ask HN: How do you (AI researchers) convince yourselves that AI isn't terrible?

Obvious parallels with developing nuclear weapons in the forties. I guess one argument is now, if you don't do it, someone else will, but are there AI researchers who actually believe at this point that this is good for humanity. Because I don't see it. I'll take all the diseases and crt monitors for whatever advances AI is promising at this point. Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49668216 Points: 3 # Comments: 3

Lawyer fined $5K over AI-hallucinated witnesses in a murder case

New Mexico's Supreme Court is punishing a lawyer for including AI-fabricated witnesses and fake police testimony in an appeal for his client's murder conviction, according to a report from Reuters. In a filing on Wednesday, the court fined Stephen Aarons $5,000 and held him in contempt for failing to "verify the factual claims and legal […]
