I've been on OpenRouter for a side project for a few months and it's solid for prototyping, but the streaming latency and the pricing markup on models I could call directly started bugging me enough to look around. Curious what other people running real production traffic have settled on.

Picture this familiar scenario: you're working on a new feature that requires a new database column. You open your local database client, write an ALTER TABLE statement, and execute it. Your code work

Hi, I'm Julius, a computer science major from Sweden. I had this really simple idea that I've never seen on the internet before. The concept for the website is: each week you share one song recommendation and a text about what it means to you, like a personal story or just your thoughts on the track. And in return, you get five back. I've noticed that when a song recommendation has a story, it immediately becomes much more interesting and moving to listen to. And so far, the texts people wri...

When I was evaluating job offers, I got frustrated with how misleading startup equity can be. The big “X% equity” or “$Y options at $Z valuation” sounds amazing on paper, but after dilution, liquidation preferences, vesting, taxes, and the reality that most startups don’t exit for unicorn money.. the actual take-home is often way lower. So I built Cliff - an interactive equity decision toolkit that models realistic outcomes. What it does: • Turns your offer letter or cap table numbers into a...

As many of you know (and probably feel), WWDC is basically the iOS Developer Super Bowl. After nerding out over some of the design and development changes, I got inspired to revisit a part of my app that hadn't changed much in a while. I think sometimes we get so focused on building new features that we forget to go back and modernize older parts of our apps (at least this is my experience). So I spent the evening rebuilding my home screen header, redesigning the category buttons and search ...

A while ago I started buying clothes while wearing the same outfits over and over again. My closet was filled with clothes that I forgot that I owned. What if Spotify existed for clothes? Not to encourage people to buy more clothes, but to help people use the clothes that they already own. I built an application called Styl AI which does the following: Uses AI to scan your clothes and create a digital closet. Generates outfit suggestions using clothes that you already own. Learns...

I've been creating gaming content for a few (for fun) years, and recently started using OpusClip to turn long gaming recordings into short-form content. The AI clipping itself worked well. The problem was everything around it. I had recordings spread across folders, clips everywhere, notes in different apps, and no real workflow for deciding what to publish and what to throw away. So I built RaidCut for myself. RaidCut does NOT replace OpusClip. Instead, it acts as a workflow layer a...

My goal was to make something that tests color/tone recognition, sequence memory, reflex, focus, and typing speed/accuracy; all while taking 30 seconds or less to learn each challenge. It started off with ledger based leader boards where you do the (seed based) challenge and compare against friends but I recently added live lobbies and local multiplayer games (the last 3 at the bottom). Here's the site if anyone wants to try any! https://www.braindiff.app/ I'll try and beat every single ...

I built my first commercial app ever called RedFlagRent. It scans apartment, condo, and home leases and identifies risky clauses + provides a plain English explanation of what it flagged for review. This app cuts through the jargon in a lease and gives people a quick way to know if there are any red flags, hence the name. The goal is to help renters spot potential "gotchas" hidden in a 1-year lease before signing. How does it work? Paste your lease text Risky clauses get flag...

Started building VidClean a few months ago after getting frustrated with tools that call themselves free but then watermark your file, cap you at 3 uses a day, or require an account just to download. The tools that got the most traction: a silence remover for videos, a Whisper-powered transcription tool, and a background noise remover. All free, no account, no watermark, files deleted after 15 minutes. Just shipped an AI background remover today. Same deal. Upload your photo, get a full-reso...

I had fun making a little weekend side-project: https://football-kit-arena.vercel.app Vote for your preferred WC26 jersey and checkout the global leaderboard. Enjoy !

A few months ago I was applying for jobs and kept running into the same problem. Every piece of advice online says: Tailor your cover letter and resume for each application Match the language used in the job description Highlight the most relevant experience Write a custom cover letter The advice makes sense. The problem is that after your 20th or 30th application, manually rewriting sections of your resume starts feeling like a full-time job itself. I found myself spending m...

I built TabLinker , a tabs and browser session manager for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The app works across Apple devices, but the Mac version has the most advanced browser-session features because that is where tab clutter usually becomes the biggest problem, especially if you juggle multiple browsers and different browser profiles for work and personal stuff. If you do a lot of research on Mac, it is easy to keep dozens of tabs open in Safari, Chrome, Arc, Edge, or Brave just to avoid losing c...

Hi so i started out around 10 years ago on wordpress and built few sites and it was okay but at that time people were like "You ain't a web developer if you've never coded it".. So i learnt Javascript, React, Python, Next Js, TypeScript. I made The Text Tool , fully custom coded and built on NextJs. So my question is, as of 2026 where is the future headed as per web development? Do custom coded sites are still necessary? Or simply fast track it and go for wordpress? Which one is i...

For the past few months I've been experimenting with a different way to consume news. Most news products are organised around articles and recency. But when I read the news, I usually want answers to questions like: • What are the biggest stories right now? • How are they evolving? • What actually matters? So I built Newssphere. It collects articles from multiple news sources, groups them into story clusters, tracks them over time, and visualises them on an interactive map. Each bu...

I’m excited to share a project I’ve been working on over the past few months! It’s a mobile app that turns any text into high-quality audio. Whether it’s a webpage, a Substack or Medium article, a PDF, or just copied text—it converts it into clear, natural-sounding speech. You can listen to it like a podcast or audiobook, even with the app running in the background. The app is privacy-friendly and doesn’t request any permissions by default. It only asks for access if you choose to share file...

I built ArxivExplorer, a semantic search engine for arXiv papers. The feature I'm most curious about is the **claim classifier**: you type a claim like "scaling laws generalize across modalities" and it uses Llama 3.1 to classify papers as supporting, contradicting, or neutral. Other things it does: - One-sentence TL;DR + key contributions for every paper - "Beginner" and "researcher" explanations for the same paper - Paste any abstract and it finds semantic...

Hello everyone, it’s my first post in this sub. I have been working on a side project for the last two years while I am studying at university. But lately I have been wondering: when does a side project stops being a side project and starts being a main project? When it starts making you money? When people start talking about it? When you can make a living out of it? Idk

Hi everyone, I’ve been working on a side project called BizSpot AI. The idea is simple: You enter a location, and the app analyzes factors such as local demand, competition, accessibility, and market potential to suggest business opportunities that might fit that area. For example, instead of guessing whether a coffee shop, laundry service, convenience store, or food business might work in a location, the app attempts to provide data-backed recommendations and explain the reasoning. My...

I have this new concept I'm trying out for a social media app with built in limited reach to disincentivize bot activity. I ran a reddit ad for the past week and had over 1000 people join already. The ad was very effective (one day it had almost a 4% click through rate). Would love for you all to check it out and share your thoughts. I was motivated to make the app as a place you can share thoughts and get feedback from a sample of people from the internet. It is island themed to make you feel...

A few years ago I co-founded a gaming database and community. We built it over six years with an agency on a proper enterprise stack (Kafka, Elasticsearch, Flink, the works). It had a real audience of about 25,000 users and I'm still, to this day, very proud of it... But the running costs and complexity made it financially unsustainable, and we eventually had to say goodbye and shut it down, something that still haunts me to this day. So I'm doing it again, with a small team of 2 others - we'v...

I've been building solo for a while now. Two months ago, I launched something I genuinely believed would help people. Put in the work. Shipped it. Complete silence. Not one user. Not even someone to tell me it was bad. I tried the usual advice. Post on Reddit, search for people with the problem, reach out manually. Spent hours every day doing this. By the time I found relevant posts they were already cold. Outreach went nowhere. I'm not here to complain. I want to learn. For thos...

Last semester I missed my end-term exam. First thought: "Am I the only one who did this?" No way to find out. Asking around felt embarrassing. Posting on Reddit meant the whole internet sees it. I just wanted to know among people at my college [ yes or no ] That's the gap easily fills. You post a question, pick who sees it (your college, your city, everyone), go anonymous or public, people answer in one tap. You instantly see where people actually stand, visually. No threads,...

Hey all, Recently I have been working for someone else’s small startup in Scotland. I help with the technical side of things but thus far I have typically worked from home. This is because I’m also working on my own project too so it helps give me the time to do both. Anyway I recently decided to give their office (their home) a visit. It’s just a small house and apparently the only person who typically works there is the founder, most of the company does what I do and work virtually instead. ...

Been working on this for months and I'm pretty close to just dropping it... I can't tell if I'm solving a real problem or just my own. I use to speak out loud, in the bathroom, while eating, taking shower, etc.. that's my way to process my thoughts, and sometimes I get insights and things I want to do... But guess what? I forget most of the time.. So I'm one of those people who's always sending messages to himself. on whatsapp, notes app, voice memos I never listen to again, don't remember w...

A year and a half ago I didn't know how to build anything. I taught myself AI from YouTube, around 100 hours of videos. And the whole time I kept hitting the same wall. YouTube has everything, more than any paid course, but I could never tell which video actually fit where I was. So I'd waste an hour searching, watch something too advanced or too basic, and forget most of it by the next day. So I built the thing I wished existed. You tell it what you wanna learn, and it turns the best free Y...

App store connect analytics screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/nIDAROP Tech stack used: Expo, Expo EAS, Apple's Screen Time API (Family Controls). Development challenge + How I solved it: Expo doesn't have a built-in way to use Apple's Screen Time API and it will take me a long time to build a solution so I researched if there are open source solutions out there and luckily I found react-native-device-activity on Github. It works really well and already mature enough so it's stable and I ...

I started building FinallyEven in the last week of March. Took a month off for finals and to cope with the academic trauma it brought alongside. Finally launched yesterday on June 7. Here's what happened in the first few hours: — Google indexed it — AI search results already know what it does — No servers caught fire That's it. That's the whole win. As a solo first time founder, I had to put my phone down and breathe because it kinda exceeded my expectations, which admittedly weren't h...
