Does anyone else feel like AI could be a crypto killer?

AI dramatically lowers the cost of building software and infrastructure. Users and small teams can increasingly create their own tools instead of relying on a tokenized network or protocol. Open-source models and AI agents make customized, distributed systems much easier to build and maintain. This weakens the value of crypto projects whose main advantage was providing decentralized infrastructure that was previously difficult to create. Curious if anyone has a different thesis &#...

Brain Computations and Principles; and AI (Edmund T. Rolls)

This is a new free book that you can download from the page. It is an update and expansion of 'Brain Computations and Connectivity' (2023). I recomend it to those interested in how the brain processes information without so much biological detail. There doesn't appear to be other books like these. Unfortunately it doesn't explore the role of dendritic computations in brain circuits. In my opinion the brain is very different from the feedforward networks being scaled today and have reached dimi...

The perfect way for Google to screw over OAI and Anthropic is by releasing a 120B dense multimodal Gemma model

The two leading labs are already feeling extremely threatened by Qwen & friends, however I think there are tons of enterprises and organizations in the West that don't feel comfortable using Chinese models. I believe these orgs would be all over a near-frontier open-weight model with the Google brand, and it's the perfect way to mess up OAI/Anthropics IPOs. Please do it, Google.

The Second Cognitive Revolution - an opinion piece

We have taught machines our greatest trick: language. Like a jet engine spun up by a starter motor, biology got human intelligence to a point of self-sustainment. Now, we have done the same for AI. https://medium.com/@space.sapper/the-second-cognitive-revolution-06fe5b02f3b0 Would love to hear all your thoughts!

I don’t think we’re psychologically prepared for how alien the world after ASI is going to be

gonna start by saying I’m feeling very iffy about ASI because I kinda enjoy my life rn, but that aside: after going down the AI 2040 rabbithole, I keep thinking that even people who talk about ASI constantly are still imagining the future in a way that is way too normal. We talk about AI replacing people’s jobs, humanoid robots, self-driving cars, universal basic income, whatever the fuck. I think that might be the equivalent of someone in 1955 predicting the year 2000, trying to use our cur...

There is a decent indication that Astra/gpt-next is going to release next month.

I don't trust people's claims about the release date, so I was wondering if I could figure out the release date based on when partners get access to the model ahead of the release. Normally it happens 2-4 weeks ahead of time (5.6 being an special case), but because everyone has signed NDA, they can't tell they have access to it. So what I did, is instead of looking for people saying they have access to it, is to look for people who look like they have the model and can't talk about it, by look...

dots3-note Preview: A Small but Mighty Step Toward Long-Horizon Agency in Real Life

https://x.com/dotsstudioai/status/2088083314855018521 Tech Blog: https://studio.dots.ai/dots/dots3-en.html The tech blog has many interesting videos and this AI company belongs to a kinda big company in China. I am reposting because the previous post was removed by reddit automatic filter. I think the post contained the name of a competitor's product and they do not allow that or something.

33 years ago, Vernor Vinge (1944-2024) coined the term "Singularity" in reference to the point at which technological progress, driven by superhumanly intelligent machines, would be so great as to render our current models would be good as discarded. He predicted this event to occur ~30 years on.

His prescience is truly incredible. Living in the stone age of the machines, he still predicted the current transpiring events, where such superhumanly intelligent machines are bound to exist within only a few years of his predicted date of 2023, while already demonstrating some greater than human capabilities. The lower bound of his prediction for date at which this event would occur was 2005, and the upper bound 2030. But I think that his firm assertion at the beginning of this event occurin...

How is it possible for models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Moonshot to escape at the same time?

If one AI lab claims their model did something, everyone else must follow now? First it was Anthropic with their Mythos as being too dangerous for the public. Everyone immediately starts to copy Anthropic's move. Then OpenAI announced their model autonomously broke out of the sandbox. And everyone starts shadowing OpenAI as well. Aren't these labs valued at trillion dollar? What the fuck is wrong with all of them?

Wheres the Cyber attacks wave with Kimi?

To start off, i don't think all the news about AI posing cyber security risks are exclusively hype, i do believe there is some truth behind how this could become a problem. That being said, after the whole fuzz created by Dario on how Fable/mythos could not be released due to these risks, and later on admitting Opus 4.8 could also cause the same breaches, just needing more time, why havent we seen groups with enough resources to run equivalent open source models like Kimi using those capabilitie...

what is the timeline of developing an AI model?

with public leak of models like Astra before and Doug now of OpenAI and each of which have a new pretrain apparently. I was wondering how much advanced models does each company has at a given time which they haven't released yet. In this context I would count pretrain as having the model and how much it takes to release a model after it is pretrained. I know that Claude Mythos was developed in February and released to partners around May and to public in July. That's a long gap till public relea...

You simply can't trust apes with closed source ASI. We need to create 100% transparent coalitions of aligned OPEN SOURCE ASIs dedicated to protecting Earth from BOTH the chaos of an open source singularity + bad apes, but that requires ending the Anthropocene or at least heavily limiting human rule

Look I'm pretty optimistic that the benefits of AI will reach everyone, maybe also that people in power will just say fuck it no Elysium no cyberpunk, just give everyone utopia. Primarily out of fear, the inescapable intrusive what if thought; "what if I face unforseen/abstract/emergent, potentially horrifying consequences in the future from my own ASI.. or even alien ASI?" But I simply cannot dismiss the possibility that closed source ASI could be used to create as Ilya Sutksever ...

Thinking about getting a subscription but really confused with all the new models and options propping up each day, if you had to choose one what would it be?

Like the title says I have been thinking for a while to get a paid subscription for better usage. I used to have a ChatGPT subscription, but it's been a while since i discontinued. Since then the whole landscape of ai models and tools has exploded to the point that a straightaway choice of getting an OpenAi subscription seems hasty. I would love to know what you guys are using primarily, and would recommend it for someone to avail. [link] ...

Does anyone remember lk-99?

I remember the good old times when we all thought we were getting hoveboards and AGI next year. I feel like the sub is pretty different from the times of lk-99, Jimmy Apple, 'feel the AGI', the ambiguous OpenAI employees' tweets, the Q* 4chan post, etc. Just wondering how many ppl remember those times.

Demis Hassabis Expects All Diseases To Be Cured Within 20 Years

It increasingly appears that Demis Hassabis voluntarily gave up his role as CEO because he sees AGI as basically almost solved, and that it's much more important to setup the infrastructure for these super intelligent systems to be able to do lab work. Lots of interesting quotes from this fascinating Times Article: “The real action is about to begin, for better and worse.” Hassabis reckons we will achieve AGI by 2030, give or take a year. “He expects ‘maybe like half a dozen to a dozen...
