I wanted to share my side-project: gPTY. Started off as an idea to combine Godot and Rust in a project (two stacks I wanted to use more to learn more). The base inspiration was tmux - simply allow spawning multiple PTYs and then let the user grid/tile them how they see fit. But since we have the Godot game engine at our disposal, we can do some more interesting things, like add an FPS counter, and then subsequently also let people set their preferred FPS (the idea being the potential lower power...
Arizona, an epicenter for the bipartisan push to revive American chip manufacturing, is about to lose more than a quarter of the water it typically pulls each year from the Colorado River. The 1,400-mile waterway is a crucial lifeline for the region and other western states. A recent federal decision on how to manage its […]
Ikea's new Badkruka wireless Bluetooth speaker is now available in the US for $59.99. It's reminiscent of the colorful and tiny $10 Kallsup speaker that Ikea debuted earlier this year at CES 2026, but at almost seven inches tall, the boxy Badkruka isn't designed with portability in mind as it also lacks a rechargeable battery. […]
That isn't Apple's former CEO promoting the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in a new Samsung ad - "Tim Cook from Palmerston North" just happens to have the same name and look a lot like him. Released right as Apple announced its iPhone Duo, the ad mimics Apple's cinematic product launch videos, with "Tim Cook" saying […]
John Ternus didn't mention Apple Home once during his first keynote as Apple CEO. But he did open by describing an "intelligent personal hub" that prioritizes local processing, protects your privacy, and integrates with all your other devices, apps, and services. While Ternus was talking about the iPhone - not a new smart home device […]
Hello once again from Toronto, where for a week every year I watch far too many movies and tell you all about them. The festival, better known as TIFF, is always a great preview of the months ahead in film, with a nice mix of mainstream fare, awards contenders, indie surprises, and genre flicks destined […]
Meta says it's making changes to the prompts suggested by its AI chatbot after a viral video showed it digging for personal information about a woman's young daughters, as reported earlier by Futurism. In a statement to The Verge, Meta spokesperson Dina El-Kassaby says the company "missed the mark," adding that "the feature never should […]
Anker’s Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro came out swinging in May with incredible call quality, something that competing ear buds have struggled to get right. They’ve become part of our reviewer John Higgins’ rotation of earbuds for more than just taking calls; The Liberty 5 Pro have fantastic audio once you make some tweaks in their […]
On September 6th, YouTuber Nicholas Light posted a video to one of his channels that made it seem like all of his content was about to be removed from the platform. In the video - ominously titled "My Channel will be Deleted Today" - Light alleges that he was on the receiving end of some […]
The Apple AirPods 5 are bringing active noise cancellation to the masses, and they're now available for preorder at a variety of retailers. They'll officially launch on September 18th, the same day as the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, as well as the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. There are two versions […]
Just a couple of weeks before Meta Connect starts on September 23rd, UploadVR posted images seemingly revealing the design for Meta's "Project Phoenix" headset. The images, which UploadVR says were "found in the HorizonOS Prescription Lens firmware package," suggest Meta may be looking to compete with devices like those from Xreal or Viture. These companies' […]
In a Slack message seen by TechCrunch, Matt Mullenweg told Automattic employees he’s back in control of the company, days after its board put him on leave. Automattic has not yet confirmed the apparent reversal.
If you're learning C++, one surprisingly common source of confusion is input.
Why does this:
std :: cin >> text ;
only read one word?
Why does std::getline() sometimes seem to skip an input?
And why does reading text from a file suddenly print every word on a separate line?
The answer becomes much simpler once you understand that C++ has two different ideas here:
reading a value and reading a line .
That's also the idea behind my small head...
You sit down on Saturday with one goal.
You want a tiny status reporter for later.
The coding agent already has a full plan.
It wants a dashboard, a worker, and Redis.
You did not ask for that extra surface.
You asked for a green or red result.
This log shows the cut you should make.
The Saturday scene
The repo is a quiet side project.
It holds one script and a data folder.
You type a loose prompt anyway.
"Make a status page I can demo."
The agent treats "page" as ...
