When is it safe to open the microphone? Building a realtime voice agent on Twilio

Wiring up a phone agent looks like a weekend project. Twilio Media Streams gives you a WebSocket with raw audio, you push it into a streaming STT, you feed the transcript to an LLM, you stream the reply into a TTS and send the bytes back. A few hundred lines. It works on the first call. Then you listen to a recording and the agent is talking to itself. Agent: "Hello, how can I help you?" STT: "hello how can i help you" ← its own voice LLM: "Sure! What can I help you wi...

A 50-capability map for governed web crawling and AI agents

Giving an agent “web access” sounds like one feature. In practice, it is a stack of separate decisions: How does the system discover URLs? Which destinations can it contact? Does it need a browser, or is static HTTP enough? What turns the response into agent-ready data? Where are request, byte, depth, and time limits enforced? What evidence comes back with the extracted content? Treating all of that as one unrestricted browser capability makes systems difficult to reason abou...

I Built an AI Coat of Arms Maker for Custom Crests and Fantasy Emblems

I’ve always liked the visual language of heraldry: shields, animals, symbols, colors, banners, and mottos that can tell a whole story in a single image. The problem is that creating a good coat of arms from scratch usually takes either design experience or a lot of time. So I built Coat of Arms Maker , an AI-powered tool that turns a plain-language description into an original heraldic design in seconds. 👉 Try it here: https://coatofarmsmaker.org/ What can you create? ...

Unit Testing in BlocSignal: The Practical Handbook

A Practical Guide to Faster, Deterministic Flutter & Dart Unit Testing If you’ve ever written unit tests for classic package:bloc applications using bloc_test , you know the drill: build your BLoC, dispatch an event in act , and assert state emissions in expect . Under the hood, classic BLoC processes state updates asynchronously via Dart microtask-queue Streams . While robust, testing asynchronous streams can introduce microtask timing headaches, race conditions, or the need to...

Trace Any TypeScript Agent Framework With Adapters

TypeScript teams rarely standardize on one AI framework forever. One service may use Vercel AI SDK, another LangChain.js, another OpenAI Agents SDK, and a mature system may call provider clients directly. Those implementations expose different callback, telemetry, and streaming surfaces. Observability becomes expensive when every dashboard, test rule, and CI report understands each framework independently. An adapter layer isolates that variation. Framework-specific code captures source ev...

OpenAI’s Plan Puts Affordable, Accountable AI Access at the Center of Its Strategy

OpenAI has set out a multi-year strategy that places broad access to AI alongside safety and governance, rather than treating access as a downstream result of technical progress. In its June 8, 2026 plan, the company says it wants AI to be abundant, affordable, safe, useful, and easy to use across individuals, businesses, and governments. The significance is not a newly announced model or price change. It is a clearer first-party statement of how OpenAI connects advanced AI development with ...

I built a small one-time secret sharing app with AdonisJS 6

Hi. I made a small open source project called OTI. It is a simple way to share a message or a small .txt file through a link that can be opened once. I started it to learn more about AdonisJS 6 and browser encryption. I also wanted to leave a small useful project for other developers. The message is encrypted in the browser. The server only stores encrypted data. The private key stays in the link. The latest update adds a confirmation button before opening a secret, so chat previews do ...

I think the vibecoding tag has gotten out of hand

I was reading this post and noticed the vibecoding had been applied. I’m not sure if this was applied by the lobste.rs team or by the author, but after reading the post it’s pretty clear that the only vibecoding involved is mentioned in an appendix separate from the actual meat of the post, which was well written and the product of sole-human effort and care. This tag feels like a black mark on what are otherwise interesting posts and has the potential to filter out genuinely human content....

These AI Barons Are Ready to Give Away Their Fortunes

A new generation of philanthropists made rich by artificial intelligence are preparing to give away their vast wealth. What should we make of a multi-billion-dollar pinky promise?
