I thought building a great product was enough to get users, but I was wrong

I used to think getting users was mostly about building a great product and posting about it often enough that people would eventually find it. After building my first app, I quickly learned that this assumption was completely wrong. The hardest part wasn’t building the product. The hardest part was getting people to actually see it. I kept posting on platforms like X and Reddit, hoping that consistency alone would eventually lead to traction, but most posts got very little attention and...

DO NOT use AI to generate SaaS ideas. Here is a data-driven, science nerd method I used to find hypotheses instead.

Im experimenting with ways to find SaaS ideas and fully realized AI sucks in market research. If you ask your fav LLM youll usually get the following crap: fake confidence badly cited source material (claude cant even access reddit?!) cant read upvotes or other useful data hallucinated problems from 2 years ago no way to verify anything I want the opposite. eg. manually finding niche communities, clustering repeated complaints from the past week, finding the exact comments, and...

Sharing a GTM plan break down for founders struggling with distribution

I see too many posts about founders not being able to find customers or struggling with their go-to-market plan. It made me realize that there needs to be a guide of some sorts that founders/builders could follow when starting off with building the story and distribution plan for their product. Hence, created a breakdown of the GTM plan anyone can use in their own context. I have been a product marketer and GTM specialist for the past 10 years (currently building a B2B SaaS product) and I ...

A good website. How did you make one?

I'm having a hard time building a nice looking website for our product/business. I know, this sounds ridiculous and of all the things, I know you'll tell me this is least consequential. But, we are at that point where a basic website isn't serving us. I want something please to the eye but that also builds strong SEO/AEO for us. We are bootstrapped, so I can't go out and spend thousands with an agency. How have ya'll done this? Any good AI products that can produce clean, well-designed websi...

One onboarding question gave better feedback than most surveys

I used to ask new users what they wanted to do first, and the answers were often too broad to be useful. The better question has been: “What were you doing manually right before you looked for a tool like this?” That one question usually gives a cleaner picture of the real job: the spreadsheet, Notion doc, Slack thread, or hacked together process they already have the trigger that made the old process painful enough to change the language they use for the problem before a founder tur...

We pulled our pricing off the website during sales calls and walk people through a short pricing presentation instead. Calls got way easier.

Context: we sell a mid-ticket tool, deals land between $300 and $900 a month, mostly closed on a call. For a long time our sales call meant screen-sharing our pricing page and watching the prospect's eyes go straight to the biggest number. Every call turned into them defending their budget before they understood what they'd get. The pricing page made the conversation about cost first, value never. So we stopped showing the page on calls. Now we walk through a short pricing presentation, 4 slid...

After coaching 500+ founders: your "first 1,000 customers" problem is almost never a channel problem

I coach founders for a living and I've watched this same movie a few hundred times. Someone's stuck in the single or low double digits on customers. They're sure it's a marketing problem. They ask which channel to run. Cold email? SEO? Ads? Reddit? Wrong question. I had a client once. B2B SaaS agency. Built the product perfectly, launched to silence. He tried cold email. Then a branding agency. Then he fired people. Then he blamed marketing. Months of it. He finally picked up the phone and...

My app crossed $100 in revenue in 3 days. How do I maintain/increase this momentum?

Built a local-first desktop app for semantic file search, thinks a bit like a search engine for your own machine, fully offline. No cloud, no data leaving your computer. Launched on Product Hunt yesterday and crossed $100 in paid revenue. I genuinely didn't expect that to happen this fast. Product Hunt drove almost all of it, a decent placement on launch day (4th), some comments, a few shares from people in the privacy/productivity space. Here's where I'm stuck: Sustaining momentum after ...

What mistake did you make building your first SaaS?

I spent months polishing features before talking to potential users. When I finally launched, people wanted something completely different. It taught me that validating demand is much more important than building the "perfect" product. For those who've built (or tried to build) a SaaS: What's the biggest lesson you learned the hard way?

Where do you pay to inflate product hunt launch?

When I launched my side project (md2doc.com) on Product Hunt, I got a dozen messages on X about helping to inflate my launch. Nobody could promise to get me to #1 spot, but they all promised hundreds of upvotes from their farmed account. At the time I thought it was kind of lame, but in hindsight, I think that's the name of the game. Literally everyone who launches ends up bringing an army of upvotes with them; it's either that, or your product is DoA. I've deleted all the spammy X messages, ...

How I used Reddit as a GTM channel to get 1.7M+ views and 2.5K+ GitHub stars

I used Reddit to get completely organic distribution for my software project. Here's what worked. I built an open-source framework and used Reddit to get 1.7M+ views and take it past 2.5K+ GitHub stars in a couple of weeks. No ads, no budget, no existing audience. Just Reddit, feedback, and iteration. If what you built is genuinely good, this playbook can get it seen. It will not save a bad product. But it can get a good one in front of the right people. 1. The title is 90% of the post. ...

We had a post hit 225K impressions on LinkedIn. It didn't close a single enterprise deal

I run communications for an AI software company. That post went semi-viral on LinkedIn. Wrong audience, great numbers. Founders, students, people learning to code. Nobody with a budget or a problem we actually solve. The next month we published something that got 400 impressions. One CTO read it, forwarded it to two people on his team, and booked a call the following week. That gap forced us to rethink everything about how we were measuring content performance. We had been optimizing for r...

Free tier, bad idea or not?

Hey, i'm new at doing the whole building in public. Both excited and realistic about the journey it will be. So here goes... 😉 I decided that the goal of my first project would be to build something that can stand on its own quite quickly and keep it technically fairly simple. The main usecase is also straightforward which is why i wanted to keep it free for everyone. Made sense, its more a tool that is convenient so i wanted to keep the entry as frictionless as possible. This project is no...

Are AI app builders making the same mistake no-code tools made?

I’ve been watching the AI app builder spaces like Lovable, Bolt, Replit, internal-tool builders, agent builders, etc. The promise is usually: Describe what you want, and the app gets built. But I’m starting to wonder if that framing is wrong. Most small businesses don’t wake up wanting to build a CRM, dashboard, lead follow-up tool, or workflow app. They just want fewer missed leads, faster invoices, cleaner ops, less manual follow-up, and fewer broken spreadsheets. So maybe the next big s...

Hey everyone, founder of a new devtool saas here. To give some context: i recently finished the alpha for a project called trashdb. it's an api that spins up ephemeral, throwaway databases (postgres, redis, etc) in 200ms for CI pipelines, and then auto-nukes them.
