Ask HN: What default model do you use and why?

I use claude for most of what I do, and Fable is largely overkill for me and frequently burns through my Max plan's session credits in minutes (!) when just doing an initial mobile app planning with 4 agents. After I waited out the timeout period 6 hours later, and I picked up again, the cache had timed out so it burned through 2% of the session in less than a minute. Opus 4.8 is now my goto and I will be avoiding 5 until I see a reason to switch back. 4.8 is 'good enough' for what I need and h...

OpenAI just wants to win

OpenAI has spent the last few years planting flags across the increasingly difficult terrain in mathematics. This week, it claimed one of its biggest prizes yet: a solution to a legendary Millennium Prize problem. In normal circumstances, this would have been celebrated as a historic achievement. Instead, many mathematicians have watched OpenAI's relentless advance with […]

Aletheia: What If AI Stopped Trying to Be Your Answer?

We taught machines to predict what humans say. We taught them to summarize knowledge, generate code, write essays, recommend products, imitate experts, and answer questions in milliseconds. But there is a deeper problem we have barely touched: What if the human asking the question does not understand the question yet? That is the problem behind Aletheia AI . Aletheia AI on GitHub Aletheia is an experimental open-source Reflective Intelligence Architecture designed around...

I built vue-pdf-export - a Vue 3 PDF Export library for real-world browser apps

Hey everyone 👋 I recently released vue-pdf-export , a Vue 3 + TypeScript library for generating PDFs directly in the browser. I built it after repeatedly needing the same PDF features across different Vue projects and wanting one reusable solution instead of rebuilding the same logic each time. What it supports Some of the main features include: Canvas and selectable-text PDF rendering Automatic and manual pagination Preview, download, and browser print Header...

When a Bug Isn't Really a Bug: How Architectural Constraints Hide Behind Technical Problems

Sometimes the hardest bugs aren't caused by broken code. They're caused by an architecture that no longer matches the problem. There is a particular kind of bug that can consume far more engineering time than it should. You fix it. It comes back. You fix it again. Then something else breaks in a completely different part of the feature, and you start wondering whether the two problems are actually related. I've learned to pay attention when that happens. Sometimes a bug is...

Daily Dose of DevOps — Terraform remote state explained

Terraform Remote State: A Consistency Boundary for Infrastructure Control Terraform state is not a cache that can be casually regenerated. It is the controller’s mapping between declarative addresses and real provider objects, including dependency metadata and sensitive attributes. Remote state turns that mapping into a shared consistency boundary for teams and automation. State, locking, and serializability Concurrent applies are competing writers. Without coordination, each...

You Don't Need Express to Build a Microservice (Here's the Zero-Dependency Version)

Open ten "Node.js microservices" tutorials and nine start the exact same way: install Express, install an HTTP client, write a docker-compose.yml, stand up a message broker. By the time application code shows up, you've installed six things and still don't know if microservices were even the right call. Node ships with everything two communicating services actually need. node:http is the server. Global fetch is the client. node:test is the runner. --watch is the reloader. No install step, no ...
