Show HN: AI Pulse a fake LED strip beside the macOS Dock that shows agent status

Hi HN! I run a few Claude Code sessions in parallel and kept cmd-tabbing around just to find out one of them had been sitting on a permission prompt for ten minutes. There's a hardware gadget I liked (called SidePulse.io) so before waiting to get my shipment I built the software version instead :D I hope you like it and find it useful as I do! YouTube is making it harder to earn money on YouTube

Starting February 1st, 2027, creators who want to monetize their channel through YouTube's Partner Program (YPP) will need at least 1,000 subscribers and either 8,000 qualified watch hours over the past year, or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. That's a sizeable jump from YouTube's current requirement of 1,000 subscribers with […]

What to expect from Google’s 2026 Pixel hardware launch event

It's that time of year: On Wednesday, Google is set to host its annual Made by Google hardware launch event for Pixel gadgets. Google itself has already teased new slab-style and foldable Pixel smartphones, but leaks also indicate that the company could announce updated watches, a new color for familiar earbuds, and perhaps a brand […]

Bluesky now lets you hide reposts from that annoying person you follow

Bluesky has added a new feature that lets you hide reposts from a specific person in your feeds. The tool might be helpful if you want to stop seeing reposts from that one person who clogs up your feed with reposts of things you don't care about. If you follow me, I may be that […]

The First NexFlow CLI Should Refuse to Run Agents

Give a specification a CLI and someone will eventually ask it to execute the system. For NexFlow, that would be the most tempting feature to build first and the wrong one. A command that launches agents makes a better demo than a validator. It also turns early implementation choices into de facto rules before the specification has settled them. NexFlow currently describes a specification through documentation, YAML manifests, JSON Schemas, reference examples, validation rules, conform...

How I stopped sounding rude in code reviews (as a non-native English speaker)

My code was fine. My comments were the problem. I've been a developer for years. English is not my first language — I think in my native language, I think in code, and English sits somewhere third. And for most of my career I didn't realize how much that third place was costing me. The moment I noticed A while ago I left this comment on a pull request: this code is bad, u dont handle when api return null. fix pls before merge I didn't mean to be rude. In my head, t...

Manual Capture in Production: Holds, Buffers, Split Payments, and the Seven-Day Clock

Manual capture means the number you authorize and the number you capture are different numbers, and the gap between them is where production bugs live. The rules that matter: you may capture less than you authorized (the remainder releases automatically), you may never capture more , the hold dies on its own after about seven days, and a card portion that a split payment pushes below Stripe's per-currency minimum fails with amount_too_small . Everything in this post is a consequence of those...

I made my Google account so secure I could lock myself out

Oh, memories! I've had my Google / Gmail account for over 20 years now. I can't even find the original date of when I've had my account now. I remember way back, Gmail used to be invite only! And if I recall correctly, I bought a Gmail invite on eBay for something like twenty dollars. A gigabyte of storage sounded insane back then. And all of this for "free" (something something if a product is free you are the product blah blah). I remember having a fairly secure password for all those y...

DevLog 2 :Finishing Network Layer of the GUI framework.

this is a second DevLog of DevLogs of building a GUI Framework for java. Today I started Implementing the framework after seeing Prototype seems to be success. and finished the Network Layer of it. it is a abstraction around Rest and Web sockets that enable framework to jump between both communication protocols in the fly. simply, when building on top of it, we have one Logical Connection that can be either rest or web socket or both. and connection and disconnect events are also built ar...

When Agents Can Run Anywhere, Where Should Organizational Judgment Live?

Two developments today came from very different parts of the agent stack. Meta released Muse Glimmer , a 30B open model designed for local, always-on agent workflows. It can run on consumer hardware and is trained for tool use, long-running execution, multimodal input, and failure recovery. At the enterprise layer, RealPage introduced the Lumina AI Suite , combining agents, a governed knowledge graph, operational intelligence, institutional intelligence, and MCP-based access to external ...

Hello DEV: Building Safer, Smarter Battery Systems

Hello DEV Community! 👋 I’m Mohammad Rezwan Khan, an Electrical R&D Engineer and PhD focused on battery thermal management systems (BTMS), lithium-ion battery safety and efficiency, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Why I joined Engineering gets better when ideas move between disciplines. Battery challenges sit at the intersection of electrical engineering, thermal science, controls, data, and software. I joined DEV to share practical lessons from that intersection...
